Are we looking at the future of the music industry when I say that, according to Billboard and Nielsen, the digital sales passed the physical sales last year for the first time ever. We’re looking at some huge numbers here and with over a 100 million digital sales last year, the digital sales went up with 8,4% while the physical market declined 5%.
How on earth could the physical music sales stand a chance against the future?
We’re living in the smartphone era where everything just gets easier and easier, the people screams for everything to be even more easily accessible then it already is. So who wants to go to a store when you can get everything you need right where you are?
I’ve discussed this matter with several people and the majority agrees that it’s obvious that the digital sales will keep on rising and take over the physical market, or at least stay where it is while the physical sales just going to keep decline. But that doesn’t correspond to Mike More’s (MD at headliner.fm) statement about digital music sales. Mike claims that the youths today doesn’t care about owning the music.
